Kitties in the Sponsorship Program

  <---[BACK TO SPONSORSHIP PAGE]
JEFFERSON has developed very serious health problems which make him unadoptable. He is living out his last days at the shelter, being spoiled rotten by everyone and enjoying what sunshine he can find. This beautiful boy deserves all the peace and comfort we can provide for him. jefferson
AUNTIE has been with PFOA for eight years. This is one of the first pictures we have of her. She pretty much distrusts everyone, but occasionally watches TV with her foster Dad. She does sleep indoors, but hides out most of the time. While she may never be adoptable, she will always have a home with PFOA. auntie
BETTY SUE was born in a clutter of rubble of some abandoned buildings directly behind the Hi-Way 101 Diner in Sequim. She is an absolutely gorgeous long haired gray, white and orange calico cat who is extremely shy due to the abuse and harassment she suffered during of her early life. This nine year old does not trust anyone. bettysue
BOOKY came to PFOA in 1999 as a 10-month old Mom, sapped of all energy and nutrients from trying to feed her three babies. She's a beautifully marked light brown tabby with silky short hair. Her haunting amber eyes seem to penetrate your soul as though she was seeking to understand why her life is a nightmare of confusion and fear. Only a very special person will be able to reach her and convince her to trust and love again. booky
BOOTS is a large red tabby with a cauliflower ear, caused by a hematoma which had to be lanced by the vet. At least he can be recognized when we spot him (which rarely happens because of his shyness) in the safe yard of his foster home. Yes, he sports white boots. boots
CINDERS is a muted tortoise shell cat. She fended for herself for awhile developing an "I can do this by myself" attitude but never had much trust in people after she was abandoned by her owners. She needs someone who can work with her to restore her trust and love, someone who can read her signs, as she is very much in command of herself. At about 19 pounds, this lady is overweight. cinder
DELLA was the smallest of her three all black littermates, however now she is an entertaining clown of a kitty. She has a loving personality. As a kitten she was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and the prognosis was that she wouldn't see her third birthday. With medical treatment, one and a half years later she no longer has a heart problem, but she has been spoiled rotten because her caretakers thought she wouldn't have a very long life. This 6-year-old gets up on everything and into anything. She's been in PFOA's care for most of her life. della
DINAH was born in the clutter and rubble of some abandoned buildings directly behind the Hi-Way 101 Diner in Sequim. She is an absolutely gorgeous short-haired tortoise shell cat who is very sweet but also painfully shy due to the tragic circumstances of her early life. She is desperately in need of a special and quiet home with patient humans who will work with her to help her to socialize and feel at ease. She is about 9 years old. dinah
ERNIE is a big, black and white tuxedo cat who appears to be completely healthy. Unfortunately this 4- or 5-year-old kitty has tested positive for FIV. He needs a one-cat (or another FIV cat), indoor home, preferably with an escape-proof outdoor enclosure. While FIV is not transmittable to humans, it can be passed to other cats through blood, semen or saliva. Not all cats with FIV develop problems; there is a good chance that Ernie will live a long, healthy life despite his medical condition. Ernie was originally a stray, but he's extremely friendly and happy. He prefers to stay indoors and likes to sleep with his owner. ernie
FAGIN is a green-eyed, short-haired black male who can best be described as a "big lug" full of love. He "head butts" and leans into his human and feline friends to show his affection. He likes brushing and belly rubs on occasion, too. Fagin and Thistle are a dynamic duo who know how to pull at your heartstrings. Fagin is currently under dietary restriction in an attempt to lose some excess weight. He is part of a package deal with his brother Thistle as these two are firmly bonded. fagin
THISTLE is a sleek, poly-dactyl neutered male, 5 years of age. He has magnificent copper colored eyes and a sweet expression that will melt you. He enjoys seeking you out for affection. His brother Fagin joins him to make a great team. Fagin is Thistle's "rock" and brings the best out in him. Thistle especially enjoys sitting on the back of the couch, both for the view and the closeness to his human friends. thistle
HONEYBUN is a comic. She is extremely active and wants nothing more than to play, play, play. Honeybun has a chronic upper respiratory condition due to sinus damage. When she finally tires out, she loves to be held and stroked until she's energized again. She was very small and shy when she first came to PFOA. If you are looking for a funny, playful cat, Honeybun is the one for you. honeybun
HOPE is our "poster cat" for our Hope Fund for Disabled Animals. She was roughly thrown as a kitten by a small child, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down. When PFOA rescued her, she had been put in a cardboard box with no food or water and ignored there for several days to lie in her own excrement. Although some people wanted to euthanize her, PFOA believed she could be saved. A special wheeled mechanism was created for her which allows her to pull herself around by her front legs while her wheels support her back half of her body. It's been a long hard struggle, but Hope now can get around the house and has a good, enjoyable life which she spends with her foster parents and a paraplegic dog. Her recovery has been miraculous and she continues to amaze all who know her -- she has adapted well to her disability and even caught a mouse! The special medical attention and special day-to-day care she needs and receives are very expensive, but her sweet personality and fortitude make it all worthwhile. hope
JAMIE and his brother, Johnny Cat, (below) were born in a woodpile and brought to PFOA by concerned neighbors. Jamie is a gray/black/white tabby and painfully shy and quite afraid of humans. He will need a ton of love and one-on-one attention to help him learn to trust and give love in return. If you have the time and patience to work with one or both of these kitties, please give us a call. Both Jamie and Johnny Cat can be petted on occasion, but it's definitely their decision. jamie
JOHNNY CAT was born feral and has lived in a PFOA foster home for seven years. He is learning to experience the joys of being touched but would need to be adopted into a special home with caretakers who are willing to give him all the time and patience he needs to adjust to and interact with humans. johnnycat
JIM is a medium-haired black and white cat and was born outside under a trailer. He is painfully shy, making it difficult for potential adopters to be close enough to get to know him. jim
JONATHAN's foster mom refers to him as her sweet, loveable "old gentleman." If any of his cat housemates want to eat his food or play with his toy, he gracefully steps aside. He was orphaned upon the death of his owner and has lifetime care. At about 17 years old, he is in the early stages of renal failure and needs dental work. jonathan
LITTLE JOEY was rescued by PFOA after spending far too long a time in a trap that was not protected from the weather or predators. He came to us a hungry, soaking wet, shivering little kitten, separated from his mother when he was trapped. Joey's emotional scars run deep, and he will not allow himself to be touched by humans. He does move freely about the household, and could be a perfect challenge for just the right person willing to work with him for years to come. little joey
LUCKY STRIKE was rescued when one neighbor called PFOA and said the stray they had been feeding looks like he has a broken leg. The leg turned out to just be badly abscessed and was treated, but it was discovered that this 9- or 10-year-old was also FIV positive. He needs a one-cat (or another FIV cat), indoor home, preferably with an escape-proof outdoor enclosure. While FIV is not transmittable to humans, it can be passed to other cats through blood, semen or saliva. Not all cats with FIV develop problems; there is a good chance that Lucky will live a long, healthy life despite his medical condition. lucky strike
All-black MAVIS is one of five in her litter. She is extremely shy, feral still; and the prior abuse she suffered will probably cause her to never recover and accept human companionship. Her siblings have all made the transition, but 8-year-old Mavis seems to be the one who is not going down that road. mavis
MOLLY MALONE is about 6 years old and is very friendly. She needs a quiet home to live in since all her siblings died of FIP and stress could initiate the disease in her. She's healthy now, though, and a real sweetheart, all 18 lbs. of her! Her diet will need to be watched, of course. She's not your typical lap cat, probably because of her weight, but she's certainly affectionate. molly
MOSTEST has allergy and weight issues and was disruptive in the catteries, so he became the "office cat" at Safe Haven, along with Tippy, our handicapped cat. Mostest requires frequent medicating and his diet and eating must be watched carefully. His care is also a bit costly and it is likely Safe Haven will be his Forever Home. mostest
MOU-MOU was born semi-feral and is Boots' mother. She is a beautiful gray tortoiseshell. Her owner lived in a trailer but became unable to care for MouMou and her kits. Even after many years with her foster parents, she still doesn't trust people and chooses to live in her parents' secure motor home. moumou
PEGGY SUE is another cat rescued from behind the Hi-way 101 Diner. She's a pretty, short-haired calico who chooses to winter in her foster parent's house, but summer outside. After living with her foster parents for about eight years now, her foster mother can sometimes get close enough to touch shy Peggy Sue. peggysue
PRINCESS was with her first owner from kittenhood to adulthood, but her owner became senile and no longer recognized her beautiful black tabby cat and began rejecting her. Not understanding what was happening, Princess became terrified, stressed out and an emotional wreck. She has slowly socialized again, but has been diagnosed with a hyperthyroid problem. Because of her past experience, it would be least traumatic for her to remain under PFOA's care for the rest of her life. princess
RUTABAGA is a large, red, long-hair tabby cat with white booties and bib. He bolts whenever a human comes into his sights and vanishes. He is well cared for at his foster home but "socialize" is a word he does not recognize. rutabaga
SUMARI and DOTLESS are siblings and identical. Both Sumari and Dotless are terrified of people and are, except under certain circumstances, untouchable. They would need infinite patience, love and understanding from a loving companion. In the meantime, they are safe under our care and will be for as long as they need us. dotless
TIPPY is a beautiful orange and white tabby with a sweet personality. He also has a neurological problem, perhaps from his mother suffering distemper when she was pregnant or from poisoning or from a condition called Cerebellar Hypoplasia. Tippy can walk across the room, then falls down, gets back up and repeats the process. He actually gets around pretty well and enjoys playing and attention. He has become Safe Haven's office cat along with Mostest as his extra care and occasional incontinence make it unlikely he will be adopted. He has been placed twice, as he is has a very appealing purr-sonality and both times was returned immediately as he began to howl and cry and did not stop until he got back to the shelter. He was meant to live at Safe Haven. tippy
T.J. was picked up as a kitten by some hippies who were living in a van. Maybe because of the drugs they were doing, the man played very roughly with the kitten. Although he didn't physically hurt the kitten, T.J. has grown into a very territorial cat and tends to strike and nip at anyone getting near him. T.J. needs to be the only cat in the household and would fit best as a "man's cat." tj
