Sonny and his mom, Cher, are a lovely mother/son duo who must be adopted together, They were discovered along the Dungeness River earlier this summer and after seeing them for a few weeks, the Good Samaritan realized that they did not have a home and started feeding them. They were VERY thin and underweight, but had obviously been someone’s pets. This little mom had struggled to feed her baby on her own for over a month.

They are really sweet cats–gentle and affectionate–and this little family would make a wonderful addition to a loving and attentive new family of their own!!

Sprinkles is a very, very handsome tuxedo youngster; about 3 years old. He is a shorthair tuxedo with a semi-fluffy black tail that he’s very proud of!

Sprinkles was part of a family with many cats, dogs and children. He developed a urinary blockage and his family couldn’t afford the necessary medical care. He needed a home where someone could give him some extra care and attention for a few weeks. We were contacted, and stepped in to take Mr. Sprinkles.

Since he arrived, and has had the necessary care, Sprinkles is blossoming. He does need to be on a special diet and regular vet care. We think he would prefer a home with fewer animals. So if you’d like to meet Sprinkles, he’d like to meet you too! Just give the shelter a call, make an appointment and come meet our beautiful boy.

Ginger was originally adopted by a family living in a rural area, Because she spent a good deal of her time outside, Ginger’s diet wasn’t able to be well controlled, so she gained weight. By the time she reached 22 pounds, she was well on her way to having health issues. Her family could not provide the level of care she needed and wanted the best for her, so in mid-February they brought her to Safe Haven where she could get the help she needed.

Ginger is on a special, managed diet, and she has made good progress towards getting down to a more appropriate weight. She’s a friendly cat, and likes attention. If you’d like to give us a call and stop by and spend some time with our pretty Ginger, we are sure she would appreciate that!

Sebastian is a very handsome longhair grey and white tuxedo who arrived at Safe Haven in June. At about two years old, he was a stray and a bit nervous at first. After being here awhile and receiving lots of attention from the caretakers and visitors, he relaxed and started enjoying the company. Now he is very nice and loving. He enjoys being petted, and returns the favor with his signature head butts. He loves being indoors. One of his favorite places is right at the top of his cat tree. And when the weather is nice and the concrete floor of his enclosed catio warms up, he enjoys rolling around outside and soaking up the sunshine.

BONDED SISTERS

Stella and Bella are two very sweet, loving sisters who have been at Safe Haven about a month. These six-year-old girls have been through quite a bit lately. They had to live in cages for several weeks after their person had to leave her home because of water damage. Then they spent a week in a crate in a car while their person tried very hard to find a place for them. We were happy to be able to offer them a safe haven!

So, having lost the only home they’ve ever known, Stella and Bella are doing a lot of adjusting right now. They’ve each lost some hair on their bellies, back legs and tails due to excessive grooming. Having gone from living with an adult woman and two pre-teen kids to a big place with lots of adult staff and visitors, they are a bit shy and a little nervous. And ‘cause they’ve lived their entire lives with each other, they are very much bonded.

Stella is the cute little brown tabby, and her sister, Bella, is a stunning all-black cat. They’re both friendly, very gentle, and have never been around any other cats, or dogs either, for that matter. They are strictly indoor cats, and really like sleeping on their person’s bed at night. When they get to know someone, they’re affectionate lap cats who love being held. And they know what they like and don’t like: mouse toys and catnip are good; loud noises and the vacuum are not.

Bento is a gorgeous orange tabby Persian male, and we don’t see too many of that particular breed these days!! With his big gold eyes and sweet and loving personality, he is a unique and funny boy. Bonded with his sister (though they occasionally have a sibling rivalry spat), they must be adopted together.

These two year olds were taken in when their owners were unable to keep them, and they came to us after being moved througn a number of rescuers. We do know that they don’t like other cats and would prefer to be the “only children” in a home with experienced Persian lovers. Persians do need a lot of brushing and regular vet care due to their smushed little flat faces, so do consider that when falling in love with these charming munchkins.

Spanky is a very handsome tuxedo cat. He was bonded to his “brother” companion, Spatzi for ten years until Spatzi crossed the Rainbow Bridge on October 14, 2021. Spanky is a handsome tuxedo cat. Spanky is one of the gentlest souls you will ever meet. He is the textbook example of a well-behaved, loving cat. He tends to be more laid back than his brother was, often lounging in a bed or cat tree. He is easily approachable and loves to be petted and fawned over. Spanky has diabetes and receives twice daily insulin shots but is quite well regulated.

Miley and Cyrus are young, bonded, and lookalikes. They are almost identical – most people rely on the kitties’ noses to tell the difference. (Cyrus has a pink nose; Miley’s nose is black.) They came to Safe Haven as kittens, and they are now about 2 1/2 years old.

When they arrived, we found that Cyrus had a serious condition requiring specialized medical care from veterinarians and from our dedicated caregivers. Because Miley and Cyrus were a bonded pair, we could not allow one to be adopted without the other.

The good news is that Cyrus’ condition has improved to the point where he and his sister can now be adopted by someone who is cat savvy and can provide the special foods, medicines and vet care needed to keep him healthy. And whoever adds Cyrus and Miley to their family will have an ongoing fun experience. Unlike Cyrus, who is constantly on the go and into everything, all at high speed, Miley is relatively quiet. Her favorite place is at the top of her medium-sized cat tree in the lobby of Safe Haven, where she can greet visitors. She enjoys being petted and having her ears scratched. And she keeps an eye on Cyrus, at least when he’s within earshot!

Goose is about two years old and she’s a tiny little girl. She’d spent most of her life with a young man who adored her, and we’re sure the feeling was mutual. She was very sad when her young man experienced a lot of changes in his life, and just couldn’t keep her. And so she came to Safe Haven to find a new forever home.

Goose has big round eyes and a pink nose with a little brown spot on one side. If she was a female person, we’d call that a beauty mark. There probably isn’t an equivalent term in Cat!

There are two things that Goose doesn’t like: dogs and change. She’s been through a lot of change in her short life. She had just become adjusted to her temporary home in our Quarantine area, where all new cats spend their first two weeks so that we can make sure they are healthy, have all their necessary vet services and are ready for adoption. And then she was moved into one of the adult playrooms, which was another change. But now she’s adjusted, and when people come to visit and call her name, she’ll come out and greet them. She especially likes being cuddled and petted and talked to softly. In her previous home she was very affectionate and friendly, and we expect that in a quiet loving home, she will blossom!

SISSY

Sissy was on her own when she showed up, pregnant, at a great cat-loving home. She was ready to have her kittens, and was invited in and given a comfortable place for her four kittens to be born. She was a good mama and took special care of her babies until they were old enough to be adopted.

The people who took Sissy in loved her and her kittens, and wanted to keep them, but they already had many cats, and being cat lovers, they did the very best thing for her and brought her and three of her kittens to Safe Haven (the fourth kitten had already been adopted). And now all four kittens have been adopted, and it’s Sissy’s turn!

Sissy is a classic tabby; several of the photos below show her beautiful swirls on her sides. She is a very gentle cat who loves attention and welcomes visitors. Although the first part of her life was spent outdoors, she has adapted quite nicely to the indoor lifestyle. Like all of our Safe Haven residents, Sissy has access to a safe outdoor area, and would probably like an enclosed catio to enjoy the sunshine. Shmoo is a lovely six year-old cat who came to Safe Haven to find a new home when her person had to move and could not take Shmoo with her. Shmoo is a lovely Manx cat with a gorgeous gray coat, with just a tiny bit of white on her chest, and a cute little puff of a tail.

She is a sweetheart who loves having visitors. She especially loves it when her visitors pet her and pay lots of attention to her. She rewards them with happy purrs and kneads her paws. She is looking for an adult family. She does NOT like dogs, children or other cats.

Fuzza is an all black medium hair kit with a fat, fluffy tail (very cool looking). She’s what we would call a “project cat” – she’s always on the go, has lots of things to do, and loves rolling balls and crackly things. And once she gets to know you, she’s quite a chatty cat, especially at dinner time.

Fuzza has always been indoor only, and she likes it that way. She came from a real cat lovers’ home, and unfortunately they ended up with too many cats in their home. Because these folks love cats, they did the very best thing for Fuzza – they brought her to Safe Haven to find a new forever home.

Bear came to PFOA in April of 2021. He had lesions and patches of fur missing, and after many appointments and a skin/allergy specialist, we were able to finally diagnose this miserable condition: it’s an autoimmune condition and may flare up if he is exposed to extreme stress. He was immediately put on a regimen of steriods.

The excellent news is that he hasn’t had a flare up in a year, living at the shelter and rooming with other cats. He has been getting a dose of the steroid treatment every three days, and his specialist vet is ready to start cutting back on the steroids. But Staff isn’t taking any chances with this handsome boy, and when he’s adopted, the plan is to keep him on the current dose until he until he adjusts to his new home and family.

Bear is a very handsome, almost-eight year-old cat (just check out the photos below), and once he gets to know you, he’s very sweet and will greet you with a cute little meow. He loves to be brushed and loves his treats. He does enjoy outdoor time in a safe, enclosed environment—there’s a little structure in one of the play yards that’s now known as the “Bear House.” We believe he will do best as an only cat who will enjoy all the attention his new loving family can give. Carlton is a very handsome dark orange tabby, a little over a year old. He is fondly known at the shelter as our Garfield-lookalike. He is a confident, friendly young cat who’s on the go most of the time. He actually swaggers when he walks!

When people come to meet him, he’ll come a-running, looking for pets. He will wind around their legs when he wants attention. And when he decides he’s made a new friend, he’s OK with being picked up. And when he’s done being busy (which is not very often, because he has lots of things on his bucket list), he’ll be glad to sit in a lap … until he remembers something else he needs to do. He loves people and will wind ‘round their legs when he wants attention. And if that doesn’t work, he’ll flop down in front of a human with no warning. And so far, he hasn’t been stepped on or tripped over!

Carlton is very playful; his favorite is a feather wand. And if that’s not handy, he will find any toy, or anything that looks like a toy, grab it, roll over and start kicking it.

Butters (because Butterscotch is quite a mouthful) is ‘bout five months old. His favorite toys are anything that’s handy, and he’s always on the go. When he first came to Safe Haven, he went through quarantine, and he did NOT like being all by himself. So when four month-old Louie came to Safe Haven about a month later and his quarantine was all done, Staff decided the two of them needed to meet. And they did. And started to bond. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Louie is an all-black dynamo of a kitten. He’s always excited to have visitors, provided they announce themselves by calling his name first. The reason for this is that Louie is blind. He was born that way, so he doesn’t know anything different. And when you call his name (which he knows quite well), he figures a new friend has come to visit, and he’ll come bouncing over to meet and greet you. There’s not much that slows him down. Without eyesight, all his other senses just seem to work that much better, especially because he has whiskers to tell him if he’s getting too close to anything.

Louie was in a playroom by himself, and he was getting lonely, so when Butters moved in, the two of them started to play together, and now they’re pretty much inseparable. Hooker is a very handsome orange tabby with a sparkling white bib and white feet. He was found out on Ediz Hook just hours before the recent big storm hit, apparently abandoned.

Hooker is just an all-around great cat. He is very sweet and very social. He really loves giving head butts. He may be afraid of dogs, as he became nervous at the sound of a dog barking. We just can’t say enough great things about Hooker, and if you would like to make an appointment to come and meet him, we think you’ll agree!

MJ arrived at Safe Haven on St. Patrick’s Day. She’s eight years old, and was promptly given her unusual name. You see, she has a left gloved paw, almost like Michael Jackson except it’s orange, not sequined. If you check out some of the photos below, you’ll see her left paw very clearly.

MJ belonged to a young man who was between homes, and the two of them lived in his car for a bit until he could move in with his mom. And then MJ came to Safe Haven to find a new forever home.

She is quite the character. She has very definite likes and dislikes. Among her favorite things are food, toys, people she likes, and food. And yes, she’s quite a “foodie” and her favorite time of day is breakfast and dinner. She’s a very curious cat, and will check out everything in her environment. She loves being brushed, and her favorite toys are ones that can be used in a good game of fetch. And if there aren’t people around to play with her, she is quite capable of entertaining herself.

What she doesn’t particularly like are other cats, so she’s looking for a new home with a one-cat family. She’s also a little picky about the people she calls her friends. She’s not shy about showing who she likes: if she likes someone, she’s all over that person asking to be petted and loved. So she will be happiest with a cat-savvy family who understands when she wants to play and when she wants to relax by herself. Scarlett originally came to Safe Haven in 2015 as a young mother. Her kittens had been adopted, and now she was looking for a forever home for herself. And in November of 2015, she found her own home. Her new family renamed her Gracie. She got along with the other cat in her home, and has never been exposed to dogs.

However, due to a change in her circumstances, this soon-to-be-senior kitty just returned to us in July, and is now looking for that purrfect home with cat-savvy people who will provide the loving care Gracie longs for. She does love her cat tree and all the “cubbies” that go with it, and she really loves her scratching post. She’s shy with people she doesn’t know, and since she’s been back here, she has been pretty quiet. She will sit on a person’s lap after she gets to know them, but, like many cats, she prefers that it be her own idea. She is affectionate with people she knows, and likes to have them come and visit her.

Stewie is a very social, very large cat, weighing in at about 17 pounds. He loves people, and will greet them at the door when they come to visit. Because of his sunny disposition and loving ways, he has become a shelter favorite.

He likes to interact and play with people. His favorite toys are laser pointers and string toys. He loves butterflies, and it’s no coincidence that his very favorite toy has butterflies on it.

His ideal home is not necessarily quiet, but also not too overly active. He would prefer no dogs and no small children, and is not overly fond of other cats. In short, he will do best in a one-cat family where he can snuggle up with his humans at night (preferably their bed) and play with them or curl up on their laps during the day.

Coconut belonged to a lady who had health issues, and a friend was caring for him. A neighbor decided to adopt him, but there was a dog and it didn’t work out, so Coconut was returned to his original home and then disappeared. Another gal had brought him to Safe Haven to find a purrfect new home (we didn’t know he was Coconut at the time.) The original friend was looking for Coconut, and was very happy to find out that he was with us, and we were equally happy to find out who he really was!

This handsome flamepoint mostly-Siamese is a very large cat with a very mild personality. He is a non-aggressive cat, very affectionate, who loves to be petted. When a visitor stops petting him, he’ll reach up with his paw and tap their hand, asking for more pets.

Coconut would do well in a home with another cat who is also laid-back and friendly, or as a single cat where he can have lots of attention lavished on him. She hides when strangers are around, but once she gets to know a person, she’s a lap cat, and loves laying her head in a person’s hand. She loves crackle toys and likes playing with closet sliding doors.

He loves his cat tree and cardboard scratchers, and when he is acting “kittenish”, he’s pretty goofy. He and his sister, Monkey, are definitely bonded and love playing with each other. The game usually starts with Monkey grabbing a toy and taking off running like a crazy girl. Paws then takes after her, tackles her, and the two of them wrestle, then both take off again. For relaxation, the two of them often sit at the door together, fondly butting heads.

He is just an all—around wonderful little guy (we think he will be a BIG adult) who is hoping for a forever home with lots of fun and playtime. Harry is an active kitty who needs lots of interaction with his human friends to keep him entertained. And, he would also do well with another young kitty friend to keep him company.

Mitzi is a calm, chatty, weight-challenged six year old. She’s on her way from a hefty 27 pounds to a right-weight 12 pounds, currently making good progress at 18 pounds.

She’s quite a gal! She’s not much of a lap cat but will “visit” your lap on occasion. And she IS a talker (not a “yeller”!) She appears to have a good grasp of human language – if you talk to her, she will listen and visibly recognize many words.

She has been around dogs, but they have to be “good” dogs. (We think that’s a reasonable request!) And we don’t know how she interacts with other cats yet. What we do know is that she really enjoys her food (see the 27 pound reference above). She especially likes cooked chicken and pretty much any seafood. We’d say she has good taste!

He is not necessarily a lap cat, but loves to be part of what is going on and is quite interactive. Peatree is a very sweet polydactyl kitty who is bonded with her good friend, Dill Pickle. The two of them were friendly and outgoing in their previous home, and Peatree loved playing with Dill Pickle. They were brought to Safe Haven by a person who loved them very much, but who was going through an unforeseen job change and sudden move, and was unable to keep them. It was a shock to Peatree and Dill Pickle to lose their home, and it has taken some time for them to adjust to their new surroundings.

Peatree loves toys and feather wands, and she’s great at chasing and bouncing on them. And she loves to sit with familiar people who will give her the gentle petting and head scratches she loves. In their previous home, both girls have lived with a herding breed dog. And having never experienced the outdoors, both kitties are perfectly happy enjoying the view from the safety of their home. Although Peatree and Dill Pickle are not sisters, they are very bonded and are looking for that perfect new forever home together where they will be a wonderful duo for their new family.

Sami is a beautiful longhair tabby and white young kitty with the most amazing black eyeliner. She is the mama kitty to Paws and Monkey, and she loves hanging out close to her kits, watching them play. However, she is definitely the Cat in Charge, and generally doesn’t join them in their games.

Sami is a small to medium cat, and is very friendly. She came in with Paws and the two were in Quarantine together when they first arrived. Although we were told the two of them were bonded, after watching them in their downstairs playroom, Sami seems to be fine without both her young adult kits.

CHARLIE

Born in March of 2021, Charlie is a very special, energetic young male. He has so much energy that he wants to do all sorts of things, all at once. And being a young man, he loves to play. When he first arrived at Safe Haven, he was a little too energetic, and found peoples’ shoes, shall we say, a bit too interesting. But our Staff has worked diligently with Charlie, and he’s calmed down a lot. Now, after a play session with one of his favorite feather wand toys, he’s ready for a time out with some gentle petting in exchange for a nice loud purr.

Charlie is a very intelligent cat. He even figured out how to open the door to his room by reaching up and pulling the handle down. And because he tends to gobble his food, Staff gave him a puzzle feeder to stretch out his dinner time. Charlie loves it. Because he is so intelligent, thrives on attention and needs mental stimulation, he will need a cat-savvy family with experience in reading cat body language. He will also do best in a home with no children and no other pets.

Napa is a friendly eight year who was returned to us after her adopter found herself unable to care for her. She reluctantly gave her up, and Napa has come home!

What a nice affectionate girl she is! This is an interactive middle age gal who loves her dinners and enjoys lap time with her person. She likes to play, and would relish a home where she gets lots of attention and can sleep with her person and watch the occasional movie, as well!

This blue-eyed lynx point -cross beauty came to us when her people had to move and, sadly, were not able to take Anna with them. After her initial intake process, she adjusted quickly to life in the downstairs adult playroom at Safe Haven, and it became obvious how people-oriented this little girl really is.

She has the most affectionate personality, and will roll over on her back to have her tummy rubbed – a clear sign of the trust she has in people. She will put her head in your hand, asking to be petted – nonstop, if you please. She is comfortable with being bathed, and she is used to riding around in a Bubble back pack. Although she loves playing with toys and feather wands in her secure indoor playroom, she definitely prefers to spend her time with people. She’s the first one to come running to the door when people walk by, and the last one to “wave” goodbye when they leave.

Roxy first came to Safe Haven as a youngster—that was about eight years ago. She was a very handsome and very curious kitten, and it was no surprise to anyone that she got adopted very fast. But sometimes circumstances change, and now Roxy is back at Safe Haven looking for her new forever home.

She’s a sleek, gray and white cat with a tuxedo pattern, and a short, smooth coat. She has a sparkling white bib, tummy and paws, and big round green eyes that get even bigger and rounder when she is excited. One of her favorite positions is to sit on her hind legs with her paws slightly in the air. This lets us know she’s ready for anyone or anything that interests her. She likes toys, and one of her favorite things is to carry little toy mice around. When she has her rump scratched (another of her favorite things), she gives head butts while purring softly. She loves to play with the feather wand, but anything that moves and flutters suits her perfectly. She is very curious, always on the go, and able to entertain herself quite well, as well as provide hours of entertainment to visitors. She does like to sit on a lap now and then, but she’s much too busy checking things out to spend much time there.

She’s kind of an independent soul, and would probably be happiest having her new people all to herself in a one-kitty family. And she would probably do best in a home with a loving mom and no cats OR dogs. So if Roxy sounds like your perfect cat, give us a call!

Dreamer is a very handsome young longhair brown tabby. He came from a family who already had a number of cats, and although he has gotten along well with roommates here at Safe Haven, Dreamer was not doing well at his former home. When he arrived at Safe Haven, his fur was badly matted. After receiving his lion cut, he was much more comfortable. And now that his coat is growing out, he is looking very handsome.

Dreamer is a very calm, cool cat; very laid-back; loves people. One of his favorite things is to be brushed. He also loves just about any toy, but especially toys that are stuffed with catnip. His other favorite is heights, and his favorite place is either at the top of his cat tree or traveling around on people’s shoulders.

Liam is a very handsome, gentle, and affectionate traditional (“applehead”) Sealpoint Siamese. His owner, who dearly loved him, could not keep him due to severe allergies.

Liam is known as the “Velcro Cat” – he just wants to be with his person, and is perfectly happy spending as much time in his person’s lap as he possibly can. He is the consummate lap kitty. We think he may be happiest in a home where his people are at home much of the time. He loves being petted and scratched. And even though he has access to his enclosed “catio”, he has shown little interest in going outside.

Clarabelle was a stray who showed up at a home in the West End and made her way to PFOA when no one claimed her. She is an exceptionally sweet kitty who is quite friendly with folks she knows and loves to wrap herself around your legs. Probably around three years of age, she is a beauty queen who doesn’t have the attitude we sometimes see with the “diva” Calicos.

Very tidy with her litter box and her grooming as well, this girl would be a great companion for a stable loving home where she would be cherished as the only pet. Clara is quite playful and really enjoys her catnip mouse, so prepare to be entertained and to spend some time interacting with her. You will be rewarded with a loving and loyal companion who loves to chat with you!!

Fancy Toes is a beautiful young Lynxpoint cross. She has a clipped left ear resulting from being accidentally trapped.

This girl could not be any sweeter, loves laps, likes being held, and has been fine with other cats. She is an indoor only kitty and has never shown any interest in going outside. She loves her large cat post to stretch out on and scratch. Round cushy beds are her favorite. She is very tidy. And she loves Esme, another kitty who came to the shelter at the same time. They are bonded and must be adopted together.

Fancy Toes would like a nice quiet home with no children or dogs. She looks forward to spending the rest of her days with her best friend, Esme.

This grey and white youngster has really unusual markings. She has a tipped left ear as she was trapped in the same area as Fancy Toes. Neither of these kitties proved to be feral. We do not believe these are litter mates, but they are very devoted to each other.

Esme is a very sweet girl! She just needs to develop some confidence, which we believe she can do in a more quiet environment and fewer cats. She does love Fancy Toes, and they must be adopted together. The bond is very apparent. Fancy Toes does sleep on top of Esme (literally). We have seen them cuddled this way several time a day. Esme loves to snuggle.

Esme has these striking matching white wisps under her eyes and a beautiful grey and white coat. She loves to be held and carried around by folks she knows a little bit better. Esme and Fancy Toes are indoor only, and have never showed any interest in going outside.

The one exception is her sister, Rousi. The two of them are bonded and must be adopted together!

Marshmallow’s favorite spot seems to be the window ledge next to the cat tree in their playroom. Even though Marshmallow is a large cat and the window sill is relatively small, he’s perfectly comfortable sitting there, looking out the window or watching the goings on inside the kitty playroom.

Saskua and Naruto are bonded brothers and must be adopted together.

Miracle Max is a VERY lucky cat!

Adopted as a tiny kitten by two elderly sisters, this little guy spent most of his first couple of years sitting in their laps with little other social interaction or play. His sedentary lifestyle and poor diet turned this gorgeous Siamese kitty into quite a chubby boy and also led to him developing a urinary blockage. In spite of their love for Max, finances did not allow his folks to provide the medical care that he needed, and they reluctantly surrendered him.

Fortunately a Christmas miracle came our way when one of our wonderful vets took this boy on Christmas Eve and kept him through the holidays until we were sure that he was doing well. He is now fully recovered, though he should stay on a special diet.

Originally quite shy and nervous in his new surroundings, Max has flourished!! He now loves to play and gets along well with our other common area cats. He is quite affectionate and chatty and is adored by staff and volunteers. He is one of those cats that while we will celebrate his adoption into the perfect home, we will shed a tear at his leaving our “home”.

Meet Chai! One of her most favorite things to do is to lounge around in her cat tree and watch all the outside activity. She’s just a youngster: she’ll celebrate her second birthday in May. She’s a very pretty little brown tabby, as you can see from her photos, and as sweet and talkative as she can be.

She was found in a box at Walmart as a kitten, adopted, and was left with family members when her people moved away. They all loved her but they had dogs, and Chai went outside when the dogs did. She either got lost or decided she liked a neighbor’s home better, especially when the neighbor was feeding her! So she lived in their shed for the next six months. The nice couple who originally adopted her loved Chai and didn’t want to give her up, but they planned to travel for a couple more years and were worried that Chai would continue to roam. So they agreed that Chai could be brought to Safe Haven to find a new forever home.

Chai is very soft, with big chubby cheeks and huge round green eyes. She’s a classic tabby, also known as a “bullseye tabby”, which is somewhat unusual to find in a female cat. She likes other cats, but is also pretty independent and seems happy just doing her own thing. She likes to be petted, but no one’s sure whether she’s a lap cat or not because she spends so much time in her favorite place in the cat tree with the green blanket. Sammy is a sweet, petite tabby boy who loves nothing better than to be petted and fed. Food time is a special time for Sammy. He’s also very talkative with people who are doing anything close to him. He’s always the first to pop his head out, with Romeo closely following his lead. He may be small but his personality is extra-large. He loves to be cuddled up in a nice warm cozy bed when he’s not pursuing other interests … like food. And there’s every evidence that Sammy and his brother love to play with their catnip toys at night!

Sammy and Romeo are very much bonded brothers, and absolutely need to be in their new forever home together!

ROMEO

Romeo is a gentle boy who is bonded with his brother, Sammy. He is somewhat shy at first, but once he comes around, he truly blossoms and loves to be petted and talked to. He is very inquisitive. He loves to be up high or in an enclosed bed. Sammy and Romeo don’t always cuddle but they communicate effectively with each other through mannerisms, gestures, and perhaps just a look. Sammy always leads the way for Romeo. Both brothers don’t always care to be held, but they do love attention and adore being petted all over.

These handsome shorthair brothers are very much bonded, and will thrive in a forever home together.

BINX

Binx and his sister, Watermelon, came from the same place as Callie, Snowball and Sterling, but these two cuties had quite a different start in life. Binx and Watermelon, along with another kitten, were found in a plastic bag that had been dumped in or near a river. When they were found, the bag was partially in the water. It was a miracle that all three kittens survived!

Binx is an all-black, very handsome young longhair cat whose favorite activities are petting time, cuddle time, and lap time. And his favorite, and most important, time of day is breakfast. He loves his morning wet food, and he’s very vocal about telling you how much he loves it (as well as sharing anything else that’s on his mind at the time!)

Binx and Watermelon are a bonded brother and sister. The two of them just can’t wait to find their new forever home together!

FRANKIE

Meet Frankie, a young senior kitty who doesn’t look or act like one. She tends to be a bit shy at first, but once she gets comfortable with visitors, she warms right up and loves it when they scratch her head. She just completed her vet check, and passed with flying colors!

In her previous home, she lived with a cat and a dog, and she seems to get along well with her feline roommate here at the shelter. Unfortunately, her caregiver was unable to take care of her any more, which is how Frankie ended up at Safe Haven looking for a new forever home.

She gets very excited about food. She meows and spins around in circles until the caretaker puts the food dish on the floor. And she loves toys that fly around her. We think she would love to have a room with a view of a bird feeder. The birds would keep her occupied for hours, at a safe distance, of course.

SUGAR BEAR

Meet Sugar Bear, a second-time-rounder who was adopted from PFOA and has now come back for a new home. Her original name was Skittles, and her Dad had renamed her Sugar Bear. She seems to like her new name, and it fits this cute little gal – purrfectly. She was returned because her human parent had just passed, a bit suddenly. He loved her very much, and the feeling was definitely mutual. They had quite a bond, especially considering they were only together about two years.

Sugar Bear is such a sweetheart! The PFOA caretakers say she’s the sweetest cat ever. They call her their little roly poly lovebug. She loves to sit in laps, and can’t seem to pass a lap without jumping up and making herself at home. She’s a pretty little tortie, about 7-8 years old, with gorgeous round green eyes that follow people wherever they go. What she really needs is a home where she can get (and give) just as much love as she had in her last home. She is waiting for a nice home where she can have long cuddle sessions with her new person.

Preston is just about the coolest cat ever! He’s a very handsome gray tabby, with just a month or two until he can celebrate his second birthday (in early May).

He’s very people-friendly, and hasn’t met a human he didn’t like! He loves attention, loves laps, loves being petted, and loves having people play with him. And although he really enjoys his human friends, it’s very important to him to have other cats to play with and just hang out together. We think he’s so used to being around other cats that he really needs the feline association – he does not like to be alone. Preston definitely needs to be part of a multi-cat family. Just one or two cat buddies will suit him just fine.

Dill Pickle is a very sweet black and white kitty with a very cute black chin and nose. She is bonded with her good friend, Peatree, who is the older of the two – by about one year. The two of them were friendly and outgoing in their previous home, and Dill Pickle loved playing with Peatree. They were brought to Safe Haven by a person who loved them very much, but who was going through an unforeseen job change and sudden move, and was unable to keep them. It was a shock to Dill Pickle and Peatree to lose their home, and it has taken some time for them to adjust to their new surroundings. Dill Pickle is more shy than Peatree, and she needs a little more time to adjust to visitors. But a little patience is really worth the time to get to know this sweetie. And … she really loves her wet food!

In their previous home, both girls have lived with a herding breed dog. And having never experienced the outdoors, both kitties are perfectly happy enjoying the view from the safety of their home. Although Dill Pickle and Peatree are not sisters, they are very bonded and are looking for that perfect new forever home together where they will be a wonderful duo for their new family.

Declawed

Benji is a rarity in the rescue world–a declawed cat who doesn’t bite or show any of the usual behavioral issues we see in most cats who have lost their claws. With his gentle demeanor and quiet but loving personality, this handsome boy would be a wonderful addition for a quiet home with folks who are there most all day.

Eight year old Benji was adopted as a kitten and declawed at the time of neutering. He was adored by his senior “mom” and led a happy and healthy life until her passing earlier this year. The out-of-state family could not take him, but were very concerned that Benji find just the right placement, and so they brought him to Safe Haven.

Benji is a true gentleman who is tidy in both appearance and his daily habits. He loves attention and has a ready purr. While he is a bit shy initially, he will warm up quickly with lots of love. If you are looking for a debonair fellow with lots of charm, this boy will brighten your days!!

WATERMELON

Watermelon and her brother, Binx, came from the same place as Callie, Snowball and Sterling, but these two cuties had quite a different start in life. Watermelon and Binx, along with another kitten, were found in a plastic bag that had been dumped in or near a river. When they were found, the bag was partially in the water. It was a miracle that all three kittens survived!

Watermelon is a very pretty young longhair black kitty with a very distinctive white stripe down her nose and mustache on her muzzle. She is very sweet, and very vocal like her brother. The two of them are bonded, and Watermelon lets Binx take the lead in most activities. Her favorite spot in her former home was the back of the couch, and the way to her heart is with food and treats.

Binx and Watermelon are a bonded brother and sister. They are both used to a lot of activity, and many cats, dogs and children of all ages. The two of them just can’t wait to find their new forever home together!

STERLING

Sterling came to Safe Haven from the same home as Callie and Snowball, but her early life could not be more different. Her person was visiting her sister when she realized that her gentle dog had brought her a present. It turned out to be a very young kitten! Her person took Sterling home and bottle fed her, and Sterling grew up to be a very social, very loving kitten. So much, in fact, that she seems to really love everyone she meets. Her specialty is to wrap herself around a person’s legs.

Sterling has been around many children, cats, and dogs of all ages. Her favorite playmate early in her life was a small dog. This very active kitten loves all cat toys, and she’ll do best in a home with other cats or dogs.

SNOWBALL

Snowball is a five month old dilute calico kitten. She’s a little more laid back than her very active sister, Callie, and she’s very curious. She loves to watch what her caretaker is doing, and she loves to be petted. It just takes her a little longer to “warm up” to people. She enjoys her outdoor catio, where she can watch everyone coming and going, as well as the birds flying and the trees waving in the breeze (or accumulating snow). And since the catio is completely enclosed, Snowball feels perfectly safe. She is especially sweet at dinnertime, and lets her sister take the lead with the food.

WINNIE MAE

Winnie Mae came to us as a little stray from the West End. After hanging around a local RV Park for a few weeks, she was not claimed and was brought to us by a Good Samaritan. She is still quite young–probably three or four.

An absolutely gorgeous Maine Coon-looking kitty, Winnie is a bit shy but extremely sweet and loving once she gets to know you. She loves to run with your feet and likes to be petted. After her time as a ” lost” cat fending for herself in the woods, Winnie is hoping for a quiet loving indoor home where she can decompress and rule her kingdom. She already looks the part– she is so regal and beautiful!

Everyone who meets Bubbles just falls in love (or at least strong like) with him. They especially love to watch him play. And Bubbles loves all people, but especially ones who like to play with him. He will play with people as long as they stick around, and if Bubbles had his way, they would stay all day. And if his visitors have to leave, he’ll just play all by himself. He has a great purr, and is just a basically all-around happy kitten.

Dawson is very playful and curious, but just a little bit “dorky”—he’s the type of kitten that might try to run thru a sliding glass door. He likes to hop onto shoulders or backs and hang there for just a minute or two before he jumps down and starts playing with his siblings. He’s quite fond of getting petted. At this point, he seems to be most bonded with Sitka—they spend a lot of time playing together.

Homer is the largest of the kittens, and he seems to like Ruby the best. He likes to go wherever she goes, and unlike the other two kitties, he doesn’t push her too hard when they are playing (Ruby is a little more quiet than the others). Homer has a sweet purrsonality and is a little more social than the others. He strikes a good balance between play and pets.

Ruby is the smallest and most affectionate of all the kittens. When people visit the kitten room, they all talk about the three that meet and greet and then go off to play, and the one that just wants to stay and be cuddled. That’s our Ruby—she would rather sit in a lap and get pets than play with her brothers and sister. She gets a little upset with Dawson and Sitka because they sometimes get carried away with playing, and we think she likes Homer the best!

HORUS

Horus was originally adopted from Safe Haven as a five month-old kitten. At just over two years old, he’s now just an overgrown kitten. We call him our “energizer bunny” because he’s a very active kitty, always on the go. He’s a very handsome tuxedo with a big white bib that he keeps very clean. He’s very smart, and curious about everything. According to Horus, there are no secrets, and everything is worth exploring because it could be something to play with. He gets along well with adults and older children, and will do best in a home with cat-savvy people who can give him the attention he wants.
