Mango and Beauty are a bonded pair. Mango is the larger of the two; he’s an orange tabby.  Beauty is a tortie with amazing markings.  She has a half face with a line right in the middle dividing the orange and the black.

Both are very outgoing.  LOVE all toys and hanging out at the top of their tree.  Mango will gentle kiss and nibble a person’s nose in a very loving way when he is cuddling.  Beauty is very sweet and gentle.  She likes to be held on her back with added chin and belly rubs.  She loves to chase bugs.  Beauty will cry when she can’t find her brother.

These siblings were found under a porch at very young age. They are frightened of dogs and need an indoor only home.

SALEM
Domestic shorthair/male
Color: Black

Age: Young

This big handsome guy has the best personality!  It is said that he doesn’t like other cats, but really enjoys being around dogs. Per his last owner, Salem thinks he is a dog sometimes. He LOVES belly rubs.

He was surrendered to Sequim Animal Hospital due to being completely blocked.  He had formed crystals and his owners couldn’t afford the emergency Cystotomy surgery Salem needed to survive.

Salem now has to stay on a special diet of SO dry/wet for the rest of his life.  He does quite well on it and likes it!

SPECK

Domestic shorthair/female
Color: Tortie
Size: Medium
Age: Young
Special needs: None

Neighbors began feeding Speck after her original owner moved out of her apartment and left her behind outside. She has clearly been an indoor cat as she has been crying and scratching at doorways trying to come in.

She has a wonderful calm and confident temperament. She purrs when you enter the room and doesn’t hide, she comes out to greet you. She will immediately start nuzzling you and making biscuits in your lap. All this beautiful little girl wants is to cuddle and be petted. She is a loving and sweet girl, a purr bucket, and very people oriented. She is very easy to handle and put in a carrier. She will make a great addition to her new family.

Confucius is The Boss Cat, the more adventurous spirit of the pair. He is curious about everything and wants to know what is going on all the time. His favorite kind of touch is gentle pats on his back. If you get the touch just right, he will melt for you.

BONDED WITH CHARLIE

This adorable little girl looks like a kitten but she’s a full grown young adult! Just like her name, she flits round the room like a fairy, is curious, gets along with other cats, has a great appetite and likes to sit on your shoulder and “groom” you!

And be sure to check her best friend’s listing – that’s Charlie. The two of them are a bonded pair and need to go home together.

CHARLIE

Domestic medium hair, male
Color: Dark tabby with white
Size: Large
Age: Young
Special needs: none
BONDED WITH TINKERBELL

This sweet, social guy is 2-3 years old, and was found as a stray. Charlie is such a nice boy that his rescuer  generously paid for all of his medical expenses and care–she would have loved to keep him, but could not.  Since he had been on the lam, Charlie needed to have a broken tooth removed, neutering, vaccines and labwork.  What a Good Samaritan! Lucky Charlie is now in great shape and ready to go to a new home!

Charlie is a dark brown tabby with a white face, chest and paws. He’s a classy and friendly cat. He must live indoors because Charlie is FIV positive. FIV positive cats can live with other cats, but they need to be friendly (like Charlie) and non-fighters (also like Charlie). FIV is spread via deep bite wounds from an infected cat. Sharing food, water or litter boxes isn’t a problem.

So if Charlie sounds like a cat you’d like to meet, just give the shelter a call, make an appointment and come on down! Charlie would love to meet you.

And be sure to check his best friend’s listing – that’s Tinkerbell. The two of them are a bonded pair and need to go home together.

SUNKIST ORANGE

Domestic shorthair, female
Color: Orange tabby
Size: Medium
Age: Young
Special needs: none

DESCRIPTION COURTESY OF WILLS

Today I’m gonna introduce y’all to our very pretty little orange tabby girl. Her name is a doozy: Sunkist Orange. Everyone here at the shelter thinks she’s a real cutie. She’s still a youngster—somewhere ‘round 2-3 years young—and she gets along good with other kitties. She tends to scoot under a chair or sofa when someone comes in for the first time, but after she gets to know you, she’s a very social, outgoing little gal.

She came from a family that had lotsa cats: too many, actually. And they decided they had to lighten up a little on the number of cats in the family, so they had her spayed, and she stayed with a foster mom for a couple weeks, and then she came to Safe Haven.

Some of her fav toys are her catnip banana and the cardboard scratchy thing. She pretty much goes bananas (pun intended) over her toys. She loves to flop over for belly rubs, and climb on shoulders. And she’s a gal after my own heart: she loves to eat! This girl can chow right down with the best of us. Oh, and one other thing: I think she’s got some owl in her. Why do I think that? Well, one of the ladies at the shelter was telling me that Sunkist is a night owl. Huh! And here I thought she was just a regular cat!

So if you like what I just told you, why don’t you pick up the phone and give us a call for an appointment to meet Sunkist? I bet you’ll be glad I told you all ‘bout her!

MINNIE

Domestic shorthair / female
Color: Grey/white cow kitty
Size: Medium
Age: Young

BONDED WITH BROTHER RIBBONS

Minnie came to us with her brother, Ribbons. She was initially very underweight and anemic, but she’s slowly gaining weight and getting stronger and healthier every day. She’s as cute as a button and starting to play! She’s curious, vocal, friendly and loves to flop over for pets and attention. She also likes being scooped up and held against your chest.

RIBBONS

Domestic shorthair / male
Color: Champagne and white
Size: Medium

BONDED WITH SISTER MINNIE

Ribbons came with his sister Minnie from a situation where they were living in a small room. This beautiful champagne and white boy is shy at first, but quickly warms up to pets and tummy rubs when you engage with him. He’s gentle, easy going, curious, an expert lounger, and likes to give headbutts and kisses.

CHLOE

Domestic longhair / female
Color: Black
Size: Medium
Age: Young senior
Special needs: none

This small sweetheart is declawed, vocal, friendly, loves being petted and brushed, and even likes being held. She gets along with dogs, too!

Pippin and Priscilla originally came to Safe Haven as bonded older tortie kittens. They quickly found a home together with a quiet person who dearly loved her kittens. Not exposed to other cats and people, the sisters’ bond with each other and their “mom” became very strong. However, three years later, their adoptive mom had to move, and could not take Pippin and Priscilla.

Returning to Safe Haven, the sisters were thrust into a new, uncomfortable environment with many other cats and people, far outside their comfort zone. For months, they hid under a blanket on the couch in their room. Because they were so shy, it took much longer than normal for them to find the right new home. Almost two years passed before they were adopted again, and though they were well-loved, due to a divorce this did not prove to be their much-desired forever home. And so they found their way back to Safe Haven once more.

The next time around, the girls had a shorter wait. A couple from Forks came to Safe Haven and took Pippin and Priscilla home. It was a wonderful environment for the girls, providing a safe outdoor area as well as everything a self-respecting cat could ask for in a home. On cold nights, there was a wood stove to keep them warm. There was a large window in the living room where they could sit and watch the birds.

But now, seven years later, their situation has changed. Their Mom passed a couple of years ago, and their Dad was facing serious health issues and, sadly, had to leave his beloved home and the kitties he was so fond of. He stayed as long as he could for “his girls”. So they are now back at Safe Haven, once again looking for that purrfect home together.

If you could provide a quiet loving final home for these two shyer, but loving sisters, they and we would be forever grateful!!

STORMY

Domestic medium hair, male
Color: Grey/white
Size: Medium
Age: Senior
Special needs: none

Stormy is once of the nicest cats we’ve seen in quite some time. He’s a very handsome senior, with a nice long gray and white coat. When his person died, Stormy had to leave the only home he’d ever known. It was a difficult adjustment, because Stormy was very much loved and misses his human dad, but he is adjusting to his new situation.

He loves to lay on people’s laps, and likes being held. He’s very friendly with visitors and affectionate with everyone at the shelter, and we are told that he loved to sleep on the bed with his person. He loves to play with anything that’s handy … mouse toys, balls, things that crackle (like paper bags), feather wands, other cats.

This is a cat who is adaptable to pretty much any situation. He has been around dogs, and basically ignores them. He likes other cats, and would do well in a home with other pets. And if he’s left alone during the day, he’s independent enough to be OK with that, also.

So if you think this cat is too good to be true, just give us a call, make an appointment, and come meet Stormy. We think you will be impressed!

CASSIE

Domestic shorthair, female
Color: White / black
Size: Medium
Age: Young
Special needs: none

DESCRIPTION WRITTEN BY WILLS

I’d like y’all to meet my new young friend, Cassie. She’s a real cute l’il black and white cow kitty. She’s got some real different features (besides resembling a cow in some way that’s not at all obvious to me). She’s kinda chubby with short legs and a short, stubby tail, ‘bout 3/4 the size of most kitties’ tails. And she’s got a cute little black dot on her chin that goes with her black nose.

She’s got quite the purrsonality, loves to be in charge, and is kinda independent. So she can fit into a one-cat family very nicely. She was found abandoned in a mobile home park, and I think she was pretty happy to be found, ‘cause she loves her food! And there probly wasn’t much of that in the park, least not the right kind!

She loves being in charge, and I hafta say, she can be just a tad bossy at times. But that’s not all bad—she’s not afraid of anyone or anything, and can definitely take care of herself. And she loves her toys and ‘specially her scratching post. She’s pretty good at shredding it! And after all, isn’t that what scratching posts are for?

So if Cassie sounds like your kinda cat and you’d like to meet her, just give the shelter a call and make an appointment. I’m pretty sure she’ll walk right over to you, and if you speak Cat, you’ll prob’ly hear her say, “Hi! I’m Cassie! Who are you?”

Sprinkles is a very, very handsome tuxedo youngster; about 3 years old.  He is a shorthair tuxedo with a semi-fluffy black tail that he’s very proud of!

Sprinkles was part of a family with many cats, dogs and children.  He developed a urinary blockage and his family couldn’t afford the necessary medical care.  He needed a home where someone could give him some extra care and attention for a few weeks.  We were contacted, and stepped in to take Mr. Sprinkles.

Since he arrived, and has had the necessary care, Sprinkles is blossoming. We think he would prefer a home with fewer animals. So if you’d like to meet Sprinkles, he’d like to meet you too!  Just give the shelter a call, make an appointment and come meet our beautiful boy.

He gets along quite well with his feline roommates. He loves to play with them and just hang out. And he absolutely thrives on visitors. He’s the self-appointed downstairs hall monitor, sitting inside his playroom door, making biscuits on the glass whenever anyone comes by. This boy really needs his very own person, and he’ll be the first to tell you that!

We’ve nominated her as head of the FED (Fly Elimination Department)!

All four kittens have lovely rumbling purrs, and love to be combed or brushed. They are sweet, active kittens who love to be played with and loved on!

LAYLA

Domestic medium hair, female
Color: Calico
Size: Medium
Age: Adult
Special needs: none

Layla is a chatty ball of fluff with the most outrageously luxurious tail we’ve ever seen.  She seems like she’s going to be someone’s Velcro kitty–NOT for someone who values their privacy.  Layla loves attention, being around people, especially someone she can talk to.  She adores being brushed, which is good because she has so much beautiful, soft, long fur! She is also food motivated, so it should be easy to win her affections with treats and brushing! She’s going to be a wonderful companion for someone who wants a truly devoted fur friend!

SONNY

Domestic medium hair, male
Color: Orange with lots of white
Size: Medium
Age: Kitten

Sonny and his mom, Cher, are a lovely mother/son duo who must be adopted together,  They were discovered along the Dungeness River earlier this summer and  after seeing them for a few weeks, the Good Samaritan  realized that they did not have a home and started feeding them.  They were VERY thin and underweight, but had obviously been someone’s pets.  This little mom had struggled to feed her baby on her own for over a month.

They are really sweet cats–gentle and affectionate–and this little family would make a wonderful addition to a loving and attentive new family of their own!!

BONDED WITH HIS BROTHER, MacGYVER

Maverick and MacGyver are a pair of very handsome cats.  They have lived together for all of their 12 years, and are looking for a new forever home together due to a change in the owners’ circumstances.

When they first arrived, they were very shy, but thanks to our dedicated staff and volunteers, they became more people-friendly.  Maverick allows volunteers that he knows to pet him while he’s lounging in his cat tree.  And MacGyver also enjoys being petted by selected people.  They both know their names, and enjoy the sound of people gently talking to them. The two are making good progress, and will need a forever home with patient, cat-savvy people who can spend the time these brothers need to adjust to new surroundings and continue to learn to trust people.

LUCY

Domestic shorthair/Russian Blue cross, female
Color: Dark Grey
Size: Medium
Age: Young
Special needs: none

Lucy had been left in the woods with her babies, and was understandably traumatized by the time she was rescued.  Still a little shy, she is making good progress.  She purrs softly, and needs to know what’s going on around her all the time.  We’d definitely say she’s a chatterer.

She has made friends with her roommate here at Safe Haven, and the two of them have occasionally touched noses.  We think she will be just fine around other cats, and could be considered for a multi-cat home.

GINGER

Domestic shorthair, female
Color: Dark tortie (brown, orange, black)
Size: Large
Age: Adult
Special needs: none

Ginger was originally adopted by a family living in a rural area, Because she spent a good deal of her time outside, Ginger’s diet wasn’t able to be well controlled, so she gained weight. By the time she reached 22 pounds, she was well on her way to having health issues. Her family could not provide the level of care she needed and wanted the best for her, so in mid-February they brought her to Safe Haven where she could get the help she needed.

Ginger is on a special, managed diet, and she has made good progress towards getting down to a more appropriate weight.  She’s a friendly cat, and likes attention.  If you’d like to give us a call and stop by and spend some time with our pretty Ginger, we are sure she would appreciate that!

TUCKER

Size: Large
Age: Senior

BONDED WITH BROTHER, SPROCKETT

Sprockett and Tucker are two almost identical brothers who were adopted from us as kittens in 2011. They grew into very large, handsome cats, and have had a great life together. Sadly, their human dad passed away recently, and their mom had to give up her home and move in with family. Unfortunately, there was no room for the cats. Their mom was heartbroken to lose her “boys” – she said they were the sweetest cats she’d ever had.
While they initially grieved the loss of their people, they have now adjusted. They are, and always have been, kind, gentle giants! These friendly, personable felines are very attached to each other. Although they have their own spaces, most of the time visitors will find them stretched out together, especially when the weather cooperates and their catio is nice and warm.

Tucker will need to continue his supplement for arthritis in his adoptive home.

CYRUS

Domestic mediumhair, male
Color: Black/white tuxedo
Size: Medium
Age: Young
BONDED WITH SISTER, MILEY

Cyrus and Miley are young, bonded, and lookalikes.  They are almost identical – most people rely on the kitties’ noses to tell the difference.  (Cyrus has a pink nose; Miley’s nose is black.)  They came to Safe Haven as kittens, and are now about 2 1/2 years old.

When they arrived, we found that Cyrus had a serious condition requiring specialized medical care from veterinarians and from our dedicated caregivers.  Because Miley and Cyrus were a bonded pair, we could not allow one to be adopted without the other.

The good news is that Cyrus’ condition has improved to the point where he and his sister can now be adopted by someone who is cat savvy and can provide the special foods, medicines and vet care needed to keep him healthy.  And whoever adds Cyrus and Miley to their family will have an ongoing fun experience.  Unlike Miley, who is relatively quiet, content to lounge in her cat tree and greet visitors as they arrive, her brother is into everything, always at high speed.  He tries to open cupboard doors (to get at treats), chases toys around the office area like a crazy kit, and recently tried to sneak behind the refrigerator.  Fortunately, he could only get between the refrig and a cupboard, and then had to back out.  In his quieter moments, he loves to sit near a window and watch the birds.

So if this pair of cuties piques your interest, give us a call for an appointment to come down to meet them. We think you will be very impressed!  At the very least, you’ll be entertained!

SEBASTIAN

Domestic longhair, male
Color: Grey and white
Size: Medium
Age: Young
Special needs: none

Sebastian is a very handsome longhair grey and white tuxedo who arrived at Safe Haven in June. At about two years old, he was a stray and a bit nervous at first. After being here awhile and receiving lots of attention from the caretakers and visitors, he relaxed and started enjoying the company. Now he is very nice and loving. He enjoys being petted, and returns the favor with his signature head butts. He loves being indoors. One of his favorite places is right at the top of his cat tree. And when the weather is nice and the concrete floor of his enclosed catio warms up, he enjoys rolling around outside and soaking up the sunshine.

If Sebastian sounds like your kind of feline, give us a call, make a “meet and greet” appointment, and come visit our Sebastian.

PIPER

Domestic shorthair tortico, female
Color: Tortie/Calico
Size: Petite
Age: Young
Special needs: none

Piper is a petite “tortico” – a combination of tortie and calico coloring. She is a new mom, about a year and a half old. She was named “Piper” because she and her litter were found inside a drainage pipe! We have heard that her kittens, who are being lovingly cared for by a foster family in Seattle, have also been named appropriately. In fact, one of her sons was named “Culvert!”

Although she is a petite little girl, she is absolutely fearless, and can be quite vocal when communicating with her human friends. She has a giant-sized purr, which can be heard frequently as she happily awaits her forever home. So if Piper triggers your interest, give us a call for a “meet and greet” appointment. She’ll be glad to show you around her playroom, and even more appreciative to be taken home by her new family!

ANNA

Lynx point cross, female
Color: Grey/white w/tabby markings
Size: Medium
Age: Young adult
Special needs: none

This blue-eyed lynx point -cross beauty came to us when her people had to move and, sadly, were not able to take Anna with them.  After her initial intake process, she adjusted quickly to life in the downstairs adult playroom at Safe Haven, and it became obvious how people-oriented this little girl really is.

She has the most affectionate personality, and will roll over on her back to have her tummy rubbed – a clear sign of the trust she has in people.  She will put her head in your hand, asking to be petted – nonstop, if you please.  She is comfortable with being bathed, and she is used to riding around in a Bubble back pack.  Although she loves playing with toys and feather wands in her secure indoor playroom, she definitely prefers to spend her time with people.  She’s the first one to come running to the door when people walk by, and the last one to “wave” goodbye when they leave.

If you are looking for an all-around wonderful cat who will love you unconditionally, look no further.  Just give us a call to come and meet our Anna-Banana!

CALI

Domestic Shorthair, female
Color: brown tabby
Size: Medium
Age: Young
Special needs: none
BONDED WITH MARSHMALLOW

Descripti

Cali is a pretty little calico tabby with large green eyes.  Shee arrived at Safe Haven early in May with her very best friend, Marshmallow.  The two of them are very close, and are looking for that special forever home together.

Cali and Marshmallow are both very friendly with people, and like most cats, love to be in high places.  Cali’s favorite spot is snuggling in the cat tree in their playroom.

While Marshmallow is very easy-going, and gets along well with most other cats, Cali is more of a one-cat cat, and that cat is Marshmallow.  The two of them need to find that perfect new home together where they can have their new human family all to themselves.

MIMOSA

Domestic shorthair, female
Color: Tortie
Size: Medium
Age: Young
Special needs: none
Bonded best friend: Willie

This adorable young polydactyl tortie had a litter of six before arriving at Safe Haven. She came from Forks with two other kitties…Willie and Nelson. It was originally thought that Willie and Nelson were a bonded pair, but it turned out that Mimosa and Willie are the bonded pair,  and both were very unhappy when separated.  Now back together, they bath and sleep together all the time!

Mimosa is very keen…and watches things.  In most cases she lets Willie take the lead and he usually does.  She is not a shy kitty.

SPATZI (January 12, 2005 – October 14, 2021)

Domestic Shorthair, Male
Color: Brown w/white
Size: large
Born: January 12, 2005
Special needs: renal insufficiency

We are sad to report that our Spatzi crossed the Rainbow Bridge on the evening of October 14, 2021.

Spatzi was a beautiful Siamese mix.  His companion of the last ten years has been Spanky, a very handsome tuxedo cat. Two of the gentlest souls you will ever meet, they have been the text book example of well-behaved, loving cats. Spatzi was the more outgoing of the two, often greeting you at the door with a friendly meow and a leg rub. Spanky tends to be more laid back, often lounging in a bed or cat tree. He is easily approachable and loves to be petted and fawned over. Spatzi was in early renal insufficiency and was easily maintained with the fluids he was given twice weekly.

FAGIN (March, 2003 – September 16, 2021)

FAGIN was born in March, 2003 and had been at Safe Haven since July, 2003. He was a green-eyed, short-haired black male who could best be described as a “big lug” full of love. He would “head butt” and lean into his human and feline friends to show his affection. He liked brushing and belly rubs on occasion, too. Fagin was under dietary restriction, and had been quite successful losing some excess weight. Since 2003, he lived at Barker House with his brother, Thistle.

We are sad to report that on September 16, 2021, Fagin joined his twin brother across the Rainbow Bridge.  As much as we will miss Fagin, we know that he will be so happy to be with his brother again, together, forever.

LUCY-ALICE

One day, in early 2011, a sweet, gentle, affectionate little Manx kitten named Lucy-Alice was adopted from PFOA. Lucy-Alice resembled a very small, very colorful Lynx, with her gorgeous green eyes, pointed tufted ears, and calico tabby markings. It was easy to fall in love with her, and she found the best of homes with a couple who adored her.

What her loving parents didn’t know, was that some Manx cats are afflicted with Manx syndrome, a spinal disorder. The mutation that causes the loss or shortening of the tail also affects the spine, spinal cord and nerves. As a result, cats with this condition may have problems with bowel and bladder control. The condition generally shows up in kittens by the time they are four months old.

Lucy-Alice did not show any signs of Manx syndrome until a year after she was adopted. Of course, by this time, Lucy-Alice was a much loved member of her new family. When she began to have little “accidents”, they hoped that they were just that – simple accidents. But they were attached to Lucy-Alice. She was so loved. “Maybe she will grow out of it,” they thought. “It will just take a little more time.”

After considerable more time, they had to acknowledge that Lucy-Alice would not grow out of it. Their decision was heart-wrenching, but unavoidable. They contacted Nancy, the Shelter Director at Peninsula Friends of Animals. Could PFOA take Lucy-Alice back? This was not a decision to be taken lightly. Lucy-Alice would require a substantial investment of time and money.  A generous gift from a very special supporter allowed PFOA to set up a special area, called “Turtle Towers”, for Lucy-Alice and an older kitten, Bobbie Jo, who also has Manx syndrome. Unfortunately, Bobbie Jo, having lived her first years of life as a single kitty, did not enjoy the company of gregarious Lucy-Alice and trouble broke out between the two girls. It became apparent that the best thing would be to separate the pair.

Lucy-Alice is one of the sweetest, most loving kitties anyone could ever hope to meet. Everyone who spends any time with her falls irrevocably in love with her. And that’s what happened when Tracy, Animal Caretaker at Barker House, first met Lucy-Alice in the summer of 2016. On a bright, sunny day, a couple of months later, Tracy came to pick up Lucy-Alice and take her to her new home at Barker House, a small PFOA facility designed for the care of special needs animals.  Lucy-Alice will probably remain at Barker House for the rest of her life. There are very few people who have the type of facilities, and the time, money and dedication needed to provide a good home for her. PFOA is committed to providing Lucy-Alice with the best quality of life possible.

We are grateful to the sponsors who contribute to the care of Lucy-Alice, as well as our other special needs animals.  While we still hope that Lucy may find her own family to love and care for her, it is not likely. So, for the rest of her days, Lucy will enjoy her life with her beloved caregiver in the sunny warm rooms of Barker House.

MARTHA

MARTHA was born in May, 2001 and came to PFOA in February, 2002. She loves attention and “talks” to the volunteers who regularly visit her. She was recently placed in a foster home, where she has adjusted well and has a happy home.
